[ARCHIVED] IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING RT 70 PROJECT

Dear Neighbor:

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to provide an update on the State of New Jersey’s ongoing construction project along the Route 70 corridor between Grove Street/Haddonfield Road and Kings Highway affecting the Locustwood, North and South Erlton communities.

The New Jersey State Department of Transportation (“NJDOT”) has recently completed the final paving of the eastbound lanes of the roadway. At this time the NJDOT will transfer eastbound traffic back onto the newly reconstructed roadway surface. This lane transfer is scheduled for Friday, December 15th, starting at 11:00pm and being complete by 7:00am Saturday, December 16th. Following the completion of this lane transfer, all South Erlton local roadways intersecting with Route 70 will be fully open.

Over the next two weeks, NJDOT will shift westbound traffic to the temporary paving.  This west bound lane shift will allow NJDOT to complete all respective improvements on Route 70 throughout the Locustwood and North Erlton corridor. It is anticipated that this lane shift will take place on or near the end of 2023. In coordination with this lane shift, all Locustwood and North Erlton local roadways, from Kings Highway to Haddonfield Road, will be closed at their intersection with Route 70, except for the Georgia Avenue/Edison Avenue Traffic Signal, Cooper Landing Road and Fulton Street. Route 70 westbound traffic will continue through North Erlton and Locustwood on the temporary bypass lanes. Please note that the local road closures on Route 70 will continue to allow access for emergency services (police, fire, EMT), school buses, and trash trucks via Route 70.

The upcoming work on the westbound side will involve necessary tree removals, installation of new sidewalk and curb construction, isolated drainage improvements, and excavation and replacement of the roadway. The contractor, R.E. Pierson, will work closely with individual homes and businesses that front Route 70 to ensure access on a daily basis. This phase of the project is expected to last approximately 6 months.

Throughout this construction period, I along with Township Council will continue to advocate for your community and all affected Cherry Hill neighborhoods. Our goal is to minimize the impact of the construction and provide advanced notification whenever possible. I understand that this construction may cause inconveniences and disruptions to both homeowners and businesses. I remain committed to representing our community’s interest as this project progresses.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the NJDOT at (609) 963-1989 or reach out to my office.

Sincerely,

Mayor Susan Shin Angulo
