Cherry Hill sees 19% boost to annual recycling grant, thanks to residents’ efforts
Cherry Hill residents’ ongoing commitment to recycling has helped the township secure a $135,871 grant — a 19% jump over last year — to further boost its recycling programs.
The grant is allocated by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and the amount is based, in part, on how much material residents recycle.
With this year’s grant coming in at nearly $21,189 more than the township received last year, that means Cherry Hill's residents have once again stepped up to do their part to promote sustainability and waste reduction in their communities.
With the grant funds, which are sourced from a statewide surcharge on trash disposal at solid waste facilities, the township is able to offset the salary of its Recycling Coordinator and other costs related to recycling throughout the year. The NJDEP also allows municipalities to use these funds to support expenditures related to recycling education programs, equipment and operations.
