Emergency Operations Center

Roles and Responsibilities

In collaboration with Township Officials and Cherry Hill Police, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was incorporated into the construction of Central Command, allowing for a state-of-the-art EOC. The EOC is activated at such times that the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, OEM Coordinator or On-Duty Shift Commander feels its implementation is necessary to maintain effective service to our community. It is an interdisciplinary field dealing with the organizational management process used to protect critical assets. The EOC is overseen by the Assistant Fire Chief.

The main role for the EOC is to plan for and respond to any emergency within the township. Additionally, we are responsible for coordinating the response of local, County and State officials during times of emergencies.

Phases of Emergency Management

Four Phases:
  • Mitigation - Actions taken to eliminate or reduce the degree of long-term risk to human life and property from natural and technological hazards.

  • Preparedness - Actions taken in advance of an emergency to develop operational capabilities and facilitate an effective response.
  • Response - Actions taken immediately before, during, or directly after an emergency occurs, to save lives, minimize damage to property, and enhance the effectiveness of recovery.
  • Recovery - Activity to return vital life support systems to minimal operating standards and long-term activity designed to return life to normal.
